August 9th, 2009
Sony launches the world’s lightest 1.4-pound and 8 inch notebook VAIO P Series Lifestyle PC which as usual is a unique gadget which comes with good features.
SIZE:
Sony Vaio P-series measures just 245mm wide, 120mm deep and 20mm in height which can just fit into a big back pocket, and very comfortable inside handbag, briefcase or small backpack. The power adaptor too is not much big which weighs under 700g including the power adaptor and the LAN/VGA block.

Display:
Sony has always had a better display technology which has been put to good use in this P-Series. Although the 8inch screen is smaller than most of the netbooks, the display is crystal clear and packs in a resolution of 1,600 x 768.
Communications:
P-Series lacks slots and sockets so its made powerful in wireless connectivity, packing in the usual Wi-Fi and Bluetooth along with GPS and a 3G modem.
Configuration:
The P-Series offers a great 2 GB of DDR2 RAM , shared with the Intel graphics card, and either a 1.33 GHz or 1.6 GHz Intel Atom processor. Storage ranges from 60GB hard drive to a 128GB solid state drive which depends on you.For video calls, the P-Series includes a reasonable 0.3-megapixel webcam.
The P-Series runs Windows Vista by default . Performance will be considerably improved by upgrading to Windows 7, and Sony is already promising for free upgrades with new purchases directly from its online store.
Price:
Sony is not well known for being cheaper, so as usual the price tag shocks every one which is P-Series starts at £750 for the entry level model, and tops out at a whopping £1,370
Drawbacks:
- Wrong aspect ratio and icons are tiny
- The SIM card slot is behind the battery, which can be slightly annoying if you need to swap it out often
- The webcam is oddly placed to the right of the screen and not angled well , so during calls you have to move yourself slightly off to the right if you want to be in the centre of the video.
- windows vista which makes it annoyingly slow sometimes
- Price is high.
Rating:
Overall rating is like 3 stars out of 5 but can it depends on specific needs .
