Nokia C3

Just a few weeks after the new low priced QWERTY keypad laden handsets were introduced by Nokia, the company has decided to launch them in India. All the three new phones, the C3, the C6 and the E5 have been launched in the country ahead of their international launches. All these phones target the low to mid-range segment where the maximum volume of sales happen these days. With a deluge of feature packed phones from “not-so-famous” manufacturers raking up huge sales in this segment, Nokia felt it couldn’t delay the launch of these phones any longer. The prices of the devices start from Rs. 5,300. This, however, is still way more expensive compared to devices from companies like Micromax and Intex who sell QWERTY keyboard laden devices for as little as Rs. 2,000. They even possess Dual SIM capabilities which these Nokia’s lack.
However, what you do get with Nokia are the services that come bundled with the phone. All these new phones, for example, come preinstalled with Nokia’s new free push email service, Nokia Messaging. Nokia Messaging if you’re not aware, aggregates multiple email accounts through one client. It supports configuration of upto 10 email accounts on a single device.
Let’s now take a look at the phones that have been launched.
The Nokia C3 happens to hold the distinction of being the first QWERTY keypad laden S40 device. The C3 is the lowest priced amongst the handsets released yesterday and features an easy to use home screen from where users have direct access to social networks. People can view, comment, update their status and share pictures to their favourite social networks such as Facebook and Twitter. It boasts of a 2.4-inch screen and also supports Ovi Mail and Ovi Chat. The C3 comes with Wi-Fi as well! There is a basic 2 megapixel camera at the rear. The phone supports memory expansion and can take up to 8GB of memory using microSD cards. The C3 is priced at Rs. 5,317

Apple’s iPad hits store shelves

iPad hits store shelves on Saturday and consumers at long last get to see for themselves whether the tablet device is worth all the breathless publicity.
The iPad goes on sale at 9 a.m. at the company’s more than 200 retail outlets in the United States, along with many Best Buy (BBY.N) stores.
Wall Street is curious to see if the device — touted as a bridge between a laptop and smartphone — can win a mass following like the iPhone has, and will be monitoring crowds at Apple stores this weekend to gauge its appeal.
The afternoon before the much hyped tablet computer went on sale, a smattering of customers lined up at stores in New York, Washington, Boston and San Francisco, in marked contrast to the thousands that ushered in the iPhone in 2007. [ID:nN02154287]
With many able to pre-order the gadget since mid-March, there was little reason to stand in line ahead of Saturday’s 9 a.m. launch. Those who ordered early enough online get their iPads on Saturday, via pickup at a store or home delivery.
Analysts say the company has already received several hundred thousands in pre-orders, with sales estimated at anywhere from 4 million to 7 million or more in the gadget’s first year. [ID:nN29117228]
MUCH AT STAKE
Apple unveiled the iPad in January after months of fevered speculation, and its stock has risen steadily over the last two months. [ID:nN27203955]
It has plenty riding on the iPad, which it calls a new category of device: a lightweight media consumption device that tries to fuse the best attributes of a smartphone and a laptop. [ID:nN29117228]
The iPad’s touchscreen measures 9.7 inches. At 1.5 pounds, the device resembles an oversized iPhone and runs on the same operating system. It starts at $499 for a short-range Wi-Fi model, topping out at more than $800 for a 3G-enabled version.
The iPad is designed for using media of all sorts, including games, video, pictures, electronic books and magazines. It can access roughly 150,000 already existing iPhone apps, as well as new ones freshly designed for the iPad.
Apple is also launching its own digital book business to compete with the Kindle from Amazon.com Inc (AMZN.O) and other e-readers and e-books.
The iPad is the first in a wave of lightweight tablet devices that are expected to hit the market later this year from rival vendors, including Hewlett-Packard Co (HPQ.N) and Dell Inc (DELL.O).
The big question is whether the iPad can attract a mainstream following beyond the first few months of excitement and into next year.
Technology enthusiasts have praised the iPad’s beautiful screen and fast Web browser, but also have pointed out some missing pieces. It lacks a camera, cannot run more than one app at a time, and it cannot view popular video sites that use Adobe’s (ADBE.O) Flash software.
Reviewers at The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal said the iPad works nicely for Web surfing and multimedia — but may appeal less to people who need computers for more heavy-duty chores. [ID:nN01128173]
Saturday’s iPad launch is only in the United States, and only for the Wi-Fi model. It will be available in nine other countries later this month.

What i mean in this upgrade is that The programs can be seen in high definition rather than the normal clarity. Only after seeing the high definition you will know the difference between the cable and the DIRECTV.

Sony rolls out first Blu-ray 3D-ready player

Sony is at the forefront of things yet again with the launch of its first Blu-ray 3D-ready player in the market, known as the BDP-S470 for those of you who absolutely love memorizing gizmos by their names. This model is not ready to display Blu-ray 3D content just yet, but it will be able to do so later this summer via a firmware upgrade, and we do believe that this is the same firmware which will enable the Sony PS3 to handle 3D playback over Blu-ray as well. Apart from that, Sony has also made known that its BDP-S570 Blu-ray Disc model and the BDV-E770W and BDV-E570 Blu-ray Disc home theater systems will be able to support Blu-ray 3D as well via their respective firmware updates this summer.
It was at the most recent CES where we were treated to a plethora of 3D TVs, including a live 3D performance by Taylor Swift before being whisked away to Los Angeles to attend another awards show. I digress – all the new models will not only be able to handle 3D playback support, but can also instantly stream movies, videos, music and more from Netflix, Amazon Video On Demand, YouTube, Slacker Internet Radio, Pandora (this Spring), NPR, Sony Pictures, Sony Music, and over 25 total providers through the Sony BRAVIA Internet Video platform as long as you have a decent broadband Internet connection.
Another unique selling point of these new models would appeal to iPhone and iPod touch owners, as long as they decide to control the players thanks to a free app called “BD Remote” which is downloadable via the Apple App store. This app will enable the iPhone or iPod touch to double up as a remote control, letting one access the Blu-ray Disc’s details including jacket artwork, actor, and production information from a highly portable device. All of Sony’s new stand-alone Blu-ray Disc players can start-up from power off in about three seconds, which makes it pretty speedy in comparison to its rivals. The Sony BDP-S470 Blu-ray Disc Player ought to hit the market sometime this month for around $200.

The lunar eclipse that coincided with the New Year blast failed to dampen the spirit of revellers in the city. In sync with the festive
“There was no effect of lunar eclipse on the New Year celebrations. We were almost full by 9pm with a large crowd waiting outside for its turn,” said Anand Verma, manager of a restaurant in Hazratganj. “For once it appeared that many people weren’t aware of the lunar eclipse. And of those who knew, few cared for it,” he added.
For aspiring designer Priya Jha, the lunar eclipse was of no importance. When informed about the eclipse falling on this date after a century, she said: “what difference does that make?”
But astrologers took the eclipse seriously. “Eclipses do influence people’s lives just the way stars do. Those who came in direct contact of the eclipse between 12.22am and 1.24am should have been careful. But since most of the New Year parties were planned indoors due to the cold weather, there was not much reason to worry,” said Vinay Kumar Dubey, a city based astrologer.
Temples in the city, however, closed early in wake of the eclipse. Mythology says that a lunar eclipse generates negative energy. “It is inauspicious to invoke the deities during an eclipse. The idols are covered by organic materials like grass, neem leaves, vila trees or raw silk shroud to prevent the natural aura from being destroyed,” said a priest at the Hanuman temple on the University Road.
Astronomers and star-gazers, however, celebrated the New Year looking at the sky. In-charge, Indira Gandhi Planetarium, Anil Yadav informed that a lunar eclipse occurs whenever the moon passes through some portion of the earth’s shadow. This can occur only when the sun, earth and moon are aligned exactly or very closely aligned with earth in the middle.
“It is a pleasure to watch this celestial phenomenon,” he said, adding that it was unfortunate that many people did not watch it due to superstition. But, the astro-lovers spent the New Year with stars and the moon. “I completely enjoyed it. I have seen a lunar eclipse before but this one was special as it coincided with the New Year. Also, it was a blue moon (second full moon in a calender month) that braved the eclipse,” said Anupam Kumar, an amateur astronomer.

Apple’s fifth generation ipod Nano is with an 8GB and 16GB memory that bear the exact same shape and size as last year’s ipod models which is priced at $149 and $179, respectively.
The aluminum is a little more glossy, and the screen now stretches out more by 0.2 inches (up from 2 inches).
When coming into the internal features, Apple really glued the 5th-generation iPod Nano with a tons of tricks which makes the Nano better.
Just forr the sake of mentioning ,know that everything found in last year’s ipod model is here as well, located in exactly the same place, same font, same everything. Music, videos,photos, podcasts, battery,quality of sound… same, same, same. Actually , rated battery life is up a little for video playback which clocks a 5 hours instead of 4 hrs.
WHATS NEW ???
To our surprise the iPod Nano now has a video camera which is on the back of the Nano ,a fixed-lens camera that runs flush with the body which is capable of capturing 640×480 standard definition video at 30frames/second
The long term request is fulfilled in this model .. which is the FM radio. This is the first ipod which has inbuilt FM radio.The best feature in this is we can pause the Radio for 15 mins which will be stored in the ipod’s cache memory.
Apple also added a new pedometer feature into a “Fitness” sub-menu that is in the Nano’s “Extras” directory along with some games, voice memos, alarms, notes, images etc.
