And it is not very correct always. People who are getting latent tuberculosis and prolonged tuberculosis or recurrent tuberculosis then they are given many drugs in mixed. More than a single drug is given. And there are doctors who recommend many types of drugs in addition with single drugs. In that cases, to add different drugs and to avoid the side effect of the many different drugs. Multi drug is used. It also reduces the side effects because of the drugs. The recurrent tuberculosis are many times resistant to drugs. Some of the drugs given are the streptomycin and rifampicin. If the bacteria is resistant to these two drugs or if it is resistant for more than two drugs, then it is called the MDR Tuberculosis, multi drug resistant tuberculosis. So, for these kinds of the diseases, we have to go for the DOTS. It is nothing but the Direct Theraphy for the disease.
